The Witcher 3’s new Songs of the Past expansion launches in 2027

CD Projekt Red closed out Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event with a sneak preview of what’s coming next for the Witcher game franchise. While the upcoming title The Witcher 4 was not at the event, CDPR is teeing up Ciri’s adventure by revisiting The Witcher 3. A remaster of the game launches on September 29, and the next — and presumably final — expansion launches in 2027.https://www.youtube.com/embed/SB3siHVCHpY?feature=oembed The remaster launches as a free upgrade for all those who already own the base game. It includes, according to CDPR, “upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new witcher signs effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, expanded photo mode, new finishers, and much more.” The expansion, called Songs of the Past (co-developed by Fool’s Theory), introduces the new region of Letten, as well as new quests and a new monster to fight. The trailer doesn’t spell out exactly who Geralt’s main op is in the campaign, but at one point during the trailer he encounters a twisted, sapient tree. And CDPR describes Letten as an, “idyllic land is rich in rural tradition and folklore.” It launches as a paid expansion for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 sometime next year.https://www.youtube.com/embed/IGk17XQ7IrQ?feature=oembed In addition to the above, CDPR announced that The Witcher 3 Remastered is launching on Nintendo Switch 2 and Blizzard’s Battle.net on September 29. The latter is part of a partnership with Blizzard, and anyone who purchases the game through their platform will receive a free Geralt-inspired skin for a character in Diablo IV. They also announced that anyone who owns the base Witcher 3 game will have access to its existing two expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — for free as of today.
