[Passive Income] Unlock the secret of passive income: 3 steps to apply for Google AdSense
This article will share with you the record of my application process for Google AdSense; the next article will share my experience after placing ads for two months.
What is Google AdSense
Google Adsense is an advertising platform provided by Google that allows you to convert traffic into revenue by placing advertising columns on your website/blog/YouTube.
These advertisements are content placed by companies from all over the world for their own products through Google Ads.
To put it simply, businesses (advertisers) purchase advertising slots through Google Ads to promote products and services; bloggers/webmasters/YouTubers (publishers) provide space for AdSense to place ads to earn revenue.
How AdSense works
According to the official website, AdSense works as follows:
- You rent out advertising space
- The ad with the highest bid appears on your site
- Revenue received
To become a publisher you need to:
- Apply for AdSense
- Embed ad code into your website
- Waiting for revenue to arrive
For bloggers, you can be very passive and let Google decide the rest. AdSense displays relevant ads based on your website content and visitor interests. For example, if your website is about travel, AdSense might show ads for travel plans or hotel promotions.
Of course, you can also take the initiative and experiment with the most suitable advertising style for your website by adjusting field positions, presentation methods, and advertising types.
AdSense revenue model
Adsense's revenue sources include "revenue per thousand page impressions" and "per-click bidding". According to the official explanation:
◆ CPC bidding
CPC bid is the amount of money you make each time someone clicks on your ad. This amount is determined by the advertiser, and for different advertising content, some people may be willing to pay a higher price.
◆ Revenue per thousand impressions (RPM)
RPM is an estimate of how much you'll earn for every 1,000 ad impressions you receive. RPM does not represent how much you actually earn. This metric is calculated by dividing your estimated earnings by the number of page views, impressions, or queries you received, and then multiplying by 1,000.
Formula:
Revenue per thousand impressions = (estimated revenue/page views) * 1000
Example:
If 25 page views are estimated to bring in $0.15 in revenue, the page's revenue per thousand impressions is equal to ($0.15/25)*1000, which is $6.00.
If 45,000 ad impressions are estimated to earn you $180, your ad's RPM is ($180/45,000)*1000, or $4.
If you are setting up a new website from scratch, Google provides a simple calculation that can calculate the potential revenue of the website based on your website category and visitor area.
Application conditions and qualifications
The application conditions are actually simple. There is only one sentence: there is original content and the content complies with the policy regulations . You can register if you are over 18 years old .
◆Qualification 1: Over 18 years old
Applicants must be over 18 years old. If you are under 18, you can ask a parent or guardian to sign up on your behalf using their Google Account. Once your AdSense account application is approved, all payments will be made to the adult website owner. (Officially, it’s very humane~)
◆Qualification 2: Website platform
You must have access to the website's HTML source code. You can add the AdSense code manually or via a plug-in. For self-hosted websites such as WordPress websites, you need to embed the Google verification code yourself.
If you are a Blogger, YouTube or other AdSense hosting partner (such as Pixnet), you can register an AdSense hosting account .
BUT!
If you register an AdSense hosting account through the above websites , you can only place ads on websites that are also hosting partners and cannot add other websites. It is recommended to register a formal AdSense account directly and then add websites where you want to place ads.
Example:
When you apply for a hosting account through YouTube, you cannot embed the YT code into Blogger because that is the code owned by the "YouTube hosting account".
PS Normally, a person can only register one official AdSense account, but it can be used on multiple websites.
◆Qualification 3: Website content
- The layout is attractive: pictures, texts, and a message area are all bonus points.
- Clear and easy-to-use navigation methods: such as navigation bar, menu bar, drop-down list, etc.
- Original content: A certain amount of original content that is published stably.
Google opposes content farms, plagiarism, and meaningless web pages. Websites with valuable content will be more likely to pass review; therefore, do not steal other people's web pages or publish a large amount of duplicate content in order to increase the number of articles.
◆Qualification 4: Comply with program policies
Publishers are required to comply with the Google Publisher Policies and the following policies, including:
- Invalid clicks and impressions: Clicks on your own pages and ads
- Encouraging clicks or views (non-rewarded ad space): Requiring or tricking others into clicking on an ad
- Traffic sources must comply with regulations
- Do not artificially exaggerate the effectiveness of advertising or infringe upon the rights of advertisers
- Putting AdSense code in inappropriate places
To put it simply, don’t try to use human intervention to increase ad clicks. If netizens share it, your account will be locked!
3 steps to apply for AdSense account
After understanding the above instructions, applying for an account is actually very simple. There are only three steps. Next, I will show you the actual situation when I applied.
◆ Step 1: Register an AdSense account
◆ Step 2: Fill in payment information
◆ Step 3: Set up websites where ads will be placed
in conclusion
If your website has a certain amount of articles, regular updates, and new content, you have a high chance of successfully applying. However, if you want to use AdSense as your main source of income, it may still be difficult.
According to netizens, a personal blog with a monthly traffic of about 50,000 has an average monthly income of US$80; with the current traffic of my blog, it may take twenty years to reach the minimum withdrawal standard of US$100...
Therefore, although AdSense can be used as a passive income, if you want to increase your income, you will definitely need to invest more effort.
