The rumors were true: The next game in Sony’s revamped God of War series follows no less a hero than Faye, the second wife of Kratos and the mother of Atreus. She proves to be just as adept at combat as her husband and son, facing off against multiple gods of war from various pantheons in an afterlife realm called the Everwhen. The game takes place concurrently with the 2018 God of War, right after Kratos and Atreus burn Faye’s body on the pyre. She awakens inexplicably in a strange dimension, and seems to be in realm between pantheons where dead gods reside. Realizing that her husband and son aren’t safe, she must attempt to find her way back home to help them with the help of various strange characters (including what appears to be a Gelatinous Cube from Dungeons & Dragons). Deborah Ann Woll reprises her roll as Faye from God of War: Ragnarok, and she’s as much of a beast in combat as any god of war, with the ability to air-juggle her opponents and channel giant magic. Her primary weapon is a sword protected by a sentient ribbon called Rue. Sony revealed the game during its State of Play event, which began with a look at Marvel’s Wolverine. Faye, or Laufey to give her her proper name from the title, is no less brutal and violent than Logan, bookending the show with her gameplay reveal.
