Meccha Chameleon is the most fun I’ve ever had for seven bucks

I know I might be a little late to the party, but having played Meccha Chameleon, the wonderful evolution of the recognizable prop hunt formula, I had to give my own two cents. And both of those cents say that the game is near-perfect and probably the most fun experience I’ve ever gotten for literally seven bucks. Over a month before its release, my friend group and I spotted Meccha Chameleon on Instagram Reels and saw people coming up with incredible ideas to blend into the environment and avoid being found by hunters. That was enough to get us all hooked, and we eagerly awaited mid-June to get the ball rolling, or rather, to get our brushes wet. As soon as it dropped, all of us hopped on, and being the mastermind behind every group gathering ever, I started hosting not only for my friends but for other players as well. I generally get a bad experience with hosts in Europe, most of them having zero English skills at all, so I love taking on the responsibility myself. And having done so, I pumped around 15 hours into Meccha Chameleon at the time of writing and genuinely consider the game to be one of the coolest I’ve ever played. https://embeds.beehiiv.com/a8d62108-86ed-4039-bf49-44877ba62c15 Your creativity and imagination are the only limiting factors in this game. Screenshots by Destructoid Though the original maps are limited, the painting tools you get are so comprehensive and detailed that only your imagination is the limit. If you can paint in real life, you’ll probably be a master in here, but even a borderline noob with no drawing skills (me) can pull off some amazing blends. All it takes is having an idea, sometimes even a dumb one, and trying it out to see the results. I primarily played Infection mode, as it’s genuinely the most fun one. It provides ramping tension for the hiders who remain unspotted the longest and lets those who are discovered do something before the game ends. A few times, I was the last one alive, and seeing so many people running around the map looking for you creates a very strong atmosphere, especially if you are hiding in plain sight. Speaking of hiding, there’s a strong hide-and-seek element here as well. While painting yourself to blend into the environment is key, you can simply find a good spot to hide, paint yourself pitch black, and hope for the best. It means hunters have to be on the lookout far more and search every corner. But playing the hunter is intense, too. You are limited by time, and the hiders constantly whistle to annoy and bait you, oftentimes rather successfully. And whenever you do uncover someone who had an amazing paint job done on them, such as on the art gallery map where everyone turns into Leonardo da Vinci, you genuinely feel like you’re some specially gifted far-seer. It’s such a small and simple game, but one that turns one of the most popular and fun games (Prop Hunt) into an infinitely scaling skill-based experience and charges you less than nothing for it. 0 The post Meccha Chameleon is the most fun I’ve ever had for seven bucks appeared first on Destructoid.
