Last Man Sitting is like if Megabonk took place in a 2000s office building, and it’s pure ridiculousness
Last year's viral hit game Megabonk may have helped create a new influx of fans for games just like it, and I'm not complaining at all. One Steam Next Fest demo I've been playing that evokes similar feelings thanks to its gameplay and overall vibe is Last Man Sitting, a silly third-person shooter with a 2000s aesthetic where you mow down hordes of office supplies come to life. Screenshot by Destructoid Last Man Sitting gets its name from the fact that you play and move around the game's maps while sitting on a rolling office chair, using weapons like a minigun or katana to fight foes while leveling up and grabbing new abilities and upgrades a la Vampire Survivors. It feels pretty good to play from a third-person shooter perspective, especially when you figure out movement tech like rail-grinding like a Tony Hawk's Pro Skateboarder professional, all from the comfort of your wheeled chair. I especially like the Windows XP-inspired design of the menus, as it takes me back to a more innocent time in the world where I hadn't even thought of an office job where plants and filing cabinets would become sentient and begin to attack me. What separates Last Man Sitting from other games like it, though, is the fact that it offers both online play both in PvP and co-op. I could easily see grouping up with buddies being a hoot as you roll around vast office space and eliminating the silly AI that are coming for you. Screenshot by Destructoid You can try out the demo as part of Steam Next Fest now, but fans of the "bullet heaven" genre or anyone who likes to blow off actual steam with friends while mowing down hordes of silly enemies should keep their eyes out for this one, too.
