In case you missed it, the best vampire game ever made is currently free to play
Despite being one of the most intriguing horror characters, vampires do not get enough attention in the video game space. There aren't so many games that get in touch with what vampires are, how they act, behave, and observe the world. And that is precisely why V Rising always stood out to me, because so far as my near-two-decade experience with games goes, nothing else comes even close to it in terms of vampire authenticity. Now, in case you never got the chance to play it, V Rising is free until May 18. On top of that, it's also on a 55 percent sale, with all DLCs (purely cosmetic) 20 percent off. The game lets you take control of a vampire in a post-vampiric world where your kind was persecuted and driven away from the land by humans. You start small in a rugged, forgotten graveyard and build your way up by carving out a piece of earth just for yourself and erecting on top of it a Gothic manor worthy of admiration. V Rising's vampires are some of the best ever designed. Screenshot by Destructoid Its robust survival-crafting mechanics, paired with the incredible vampire gameplay that lets you raid villages and towns for blood and loot, produce one of the most unique titles you'll ever encounter. And, of course, as you've read in the title, it's possibly the best vampire game ever made. No other game (so far) lets you strike terror in the hearts of humankind by ravaging their churches and living spaces, all the while growing more powerful and expanding your demesne. It sort of combines the early vampire stories of Victorian Britain that were themselves parodies of the elites' lives at that point, which were characterized especially by lavish spending and debauchery in tall towers and sprawling mansions, while at the same time drawing inspiration from folk tales and Bram Stoker's terrorizing creatures of the night. You're at once an aristocrat and a monster, a nocturnal king and a prowling beast. But I'm getting ahead of myself. The game is completely free for the next few days, so if you are in any way intrigued by what I wrote here, go out and give it a try. The game is primarily PVP with duo and quad servers, but also has a PVE mode that many players seem to enjoy. I think the PVP is the intended experience, but the option is there if you aren't competitive at heart.
