Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's endgame fights may involve some minigames, but its director is more interested in using your levelled-up characters to "overcome difficult situations"
As exciting as the fight with Sephiroth will be in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, it's the Weapon battles that I'm most looking forward to. They're going to be glorious spectacles, and according to Naoki Hamaguchi, overseer of the remake trilogy, a true challenge of your skills – with the occasional curveball for good measure. "Obviously, what we're making is an RPG," Hamaguchi tells GamesRadar+ in a new interview. "One of the things that's fun about RPGs is having the characters you've leveled, you've customized, and you've brought them up where they are, and using them to overcome difficult situations." For the endgame, the devs wanted to find balance between injecting novelty into the fights against Sapphire, Diamond and the other Weapons, and making them straight-ahead slobberknockers. "Say you had this fight against a Weapon, a giant enemy, or something that's really exciting or cool," he begins.https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/PH3ox5krci8 "And you go into it, and it's just a completely new mechanic or minigame," he continues. "I think there are quite a few players who would come away from that feeling quite disappointed that it wasn't a reflection of the effort that they put into building something up to that point." I would agree. This will be three games into the re-telling of Final Fantasy 7, and as someone who loves tinkering with his materia and equipment, I like feeling my build succeed over any and every kind of adversity. Sometimes to my own detriment – I have forced myself to complete Darks Souls runs with less than optimal characters because I felt I had something to prove. I digress. Hamaguchi says the devs "want to have the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series combat system at the base," regardless of what other bells and whistles might be attached to a Weapon encounter. "There may be some minigames involved in parts of them, say at the beginning of one of the fights or something like that, to mix things up a little bit," he comments. "But the core battle is really focused on the characters that you have come through the rest of the game with as an RPG." Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director wants "some kind of physical edition" for the RPG, but he can't promise it as Sony becomes the latest to "shift away" toward digital. [/url]
