Unlike the Italian version, which is armed with Hellfires, the T129 is armed with domestically produced L-UMTAS and CIRIT guided missiles. It also features a 20 mm forward-firing cannon and can carry Stinger air-to-air missiles and FZ49 unguided rockets. The F-104S (rank VII) was purchased by Turkey from Italy in the 1960s and 70s to bolster its air force during its gradual transition to the F-16.
