Dev Talk: Development Update May 2026
Now that Radiant Wilds is live and Albion Online has officially launched on Xbox, Game Director Moritz Bokelmann discusses early player feedback, how players are engaging with the update's new feature, and the next major steps on Albion's roadmap. Watch our latest Dev Talk below:Visual Overhaul and Performance ImprovementsRadiant Wilds introduced one of the largest visual updates Albion has ever received, refreshing biomes, terrain, lighting, and atmosphere across the open world. A recent player survey shows: More than 70% of players responded positively to the visual overhaul Some players felt certain biomes were too bright or received different levels of attentionThe team explained: Some lighting and texture intensity has already been toned down in areas such as the Mountain and Steppe biomes The overhaul focused on giving each biome a stronger identity Some regions that already had a strong visual character received fewer changes These changes are not final and further improvements will come in the futureThe update also included the first larger batch of optimizations in our ongoing effort to improve overall game performance. The results so far are encouraging, but this is only the first step: A majority of players report that the game feels smoother overall Large-scale ZvZ performance remains one of the biggest pain pointsFurther work is already underway: More optimizations are planned for upcoming patches and updates The tech team continues improving performance and networking infrastructureArmory and 1v1 ArenaThe Armory was designed to make effective builds easier to discover by analyzing real gameplay data and highlighting setups that perform well in different types of content. Since launch: Around 40% of all saved Loadouts are now being created through the Armory Players are experimenting with a wide variety of builds across different activities Additional smaller improvements to the system are already planned for future updatesIn addition, the 1v1 Arena was introduced as a lower-risk environment for players to get comfortable with PvP before eventually moving into Albion’s more dangerous full-loot PvP content. Early results have been encouraging: The mode has seen strong player participation since launch Population levels in other solo activities such as Corrupted Dungeons and the Mists have largely recovered after a short-term shift following the update This suggests the mode is largely fulfilling its intended role The 1v1 Arena also launched as a limited-time mode while the team evaluates the idea of rotating certain game modes and activities. The goal behind testing this approach is to: Help certain activities feel fresh when they return Concentrate player population more effectively Create space for further adjustments and improvements between runsLong-term decisions about the mode are still being evaluated based on player feedback and ongoing player data.Xbox LaunchThe Xbox launch marked the game’s first official console release and an important step in Albion’s long-term cross-platform vision. The results have been remarkably positive: Xbox players account for close to 15% of Albion’s population during peak times Console players have quickly joined guilds, PvP activities, and the player economy Controller usability and onboarding improvements are already being developedTo all Xbox players joining us: welcome! We’re looking forward to hearing your feedback as we continue improving the console experience.Looking AheadDevelopment is now shifting toward Albion’s next major content releases. The next Guild Season in early July will introduce a new Keeper-themed event featuring: New enemies appearing across Albion New challenges and rewards A return to large-scale seasonal world eventsThis is followed by one of Albion's most ambitious updates yet later this summer: Dragons. Current plans include: New reasons for conflict New areas to explore New moments where the world feels unpredictable and aliveThere is still much more to reveal, but Albion’s next chapter is already taking shape.
