Dell and Alienware reveal new laptops for consumers and gamers
Dell and its Alienware gamer PC brand unveiled new laptops with a variety of silicon and features for gamers. Dell unveiled its Dell 14S and Dell 16S laptops, while Alienware took the wraps off the Alienware 15 laptop. Matt McGowan, head of product, said in a press briefing that the Dell laptops are aimed at general consumers with the latest processors available from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices. They’re targeted at providing value and are available today. “This is part of our broader commitment at Dell to ensure that we deliver the best experience across every category, every customer,” McGowan said. On the AI fornt, the version with the Intel Core Ultra processor has up to 50 TOPS in performance for the neural processing unit. “That means it’s always there working behind behind the scenes to make sure you’re getting the longest battery life, the highest productivity with the latest generation of silicon and technology,” McGowan said. The machines will also have options for AMD Ryzen AI 400 processors, for a focus on multitasking, great visuals and advanced AI-driven performance. The laptops have a slim profile of 15.3 millimeters in thickness. They’re built with productivity and high battery life in mind. The 14S starts at 3.2 pounds and has up to 24 hours of productivity battery life, while the 16S starts at 3.9 pounds and has up to 26 hours of streaming battery life. They’re available in two colors, celestial blue and frost blue. Earlier this year at CES 2026, Alienware committed to expanding the products for gamers on an end-to-end basis. The Alienware 15 laptop is a step forward in the portfolio expansion. It’s a multi-purpose laptop with a focus on performance and quality at more accessible price points. “This is our new entrance into the Alienware experience. In the middle, you have our versatile tier. This is an Aurora class of product,” McGowan said. “This is where you’re going to get more power. You’re going to get more features, broader configurations. For those that want to expand into more enthusiast grade experiences and then all the way to the right, we have our flagship product Area 51 available in 16-inch and 18-inch formats.” The Alienware 15 is aimed at those who may be new to the Alienware fold in terms of their first gaming laptop. They will use it in their everyday living and appreciate its compact nature. The design removed its thermal shelf and so it’s under an inch thick at 23 millimeters and it weighs under five pounds. “That’s very lightweight in the grand scheme of things,” McGowan said. The laptop has rear exhaust air flow for cooling, and it comes with a Nova Black polycarbonate resin finish with a kind of metallic sheen on it. It’s been drop tested at 18 inches on all of its corners and faces. “It’s going to feel nice in your hand. And so we wanted to make it super easy to carry,” he said. It has a full HD 165-hertz display that is tuned for gaming with a high refresh rate. There are two upgradeable sticks of DDR5 memory and an M.2 Gen4 SSD. The hinge rotates 180 degrees. With a single press of a button you can toggle between high performance mode and more of a cool and quiet mode for when you are not gaming. It will have a backlit keyboard with a number pad. The touchpad is slightly larger and the number of ports are minimized. There are ports for power, Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, and two USB 3.2 ports and a USB-C gen2 port. You can charge it using any universal type C charger if you want. It has a 3.5 millimeter headset jack and another USB 3.2 gen1 port on the right side. A lot of the air intake comes through the bottom of the chassis, where there are over 2,000 holes for air to flow through. There’s a dual fan system and three copper heat pipes, with air exhaust going out the rear. It can house Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 or 5060 graphics cards, and it has a cryo chamber structure. You can also use 3050 or 4050 cards. It has options of AMD Ryzen 200 Series and Intel Core Series 2 processors. They’re targeted at gamers on a budget. The prices will start at $1,299 for AMD and $1,349 for the Intel version. They come with 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD and a 4050 graphics card. The memory chip market is “pretty dynamic” now and so costs on the components could change. Pricing, as a result, could change as well, McGowan said. “There’s still a lot of dynamics,” he said.
