Among Us Story: On Guard demo is available on Steam Next Fest

The success of Among Us as whodunit multiplayer party game (downloaded more than 900 million times) has enabled Innersloth to invest in new content, and now it’s showing off Among Us Story: On Guard. The single-player game is set within the Among Us universe and it has a limited time demo from June 15 to June 22 as part of the Steam Next Fest. I saw a demo of Innersloth’s latest title at the Summer Game Fest. Carol Mertz, lead game designer, walked me through the demo on the Nintendo Switch 2 at the Summer Game Fest Play Days. https://www.youtube.com/embed/QkQrwf8sfaY?feature=oembed Among Us Story: On Guard is part of the celebration for the 8th anniversary of Among Us. Ahead of the demo release, we’d like to offer you access to a preview build of the game.  Among Us Story: On Guard is a narrative-driven single-player experience set in the Among Us universe, reimagining its themes of trust, deception and survival through a focused story campaign. Players enter a controlled simulation at MIRA R&D as part of the new Crewmate training program, taking on the role of Guard, the ship’s security officer responsible for maintaining order and ensuring the crew reaches its destination safely. When a shocking murder occurs aboard the vessel, the mission quickly spirals into chaos, forcing Guard to investigate the incident while under growing suspicion themselves.  Players must gather and analyze evidence, interrogate crewmates and navigate tense accusation sequences where dialogue choices and testimony directly shape outcomes. Every decision matters, with time playing a critical role – delays increase the risk of further Crewmate losses as the Imposter continues to strike. “We’re give folks an opportunity to slow things down and actually enjoy the universe without worrying about constantly being murdered most of the time,” Mertz said. “People didn’t always want to get murdered. That’s idea.” It’s a way to deliver a new kind of gameplay style for players who want to spend more time in the Among Us world. The game has been in development for quite a while, Mertz said. While set in the future, it has a noire-like feeling. All is fine until you find a dead body in the corner. Your job is to go from room to room, often dealing with roadblocks along the way. I had to head to med bay, but both of the doors were locked. I had to go to an air vent, crawl in, and eventually get inside the med ward, where there were a variety of clues for me to process. I called up a minimap to see where I was aboard the original Among Us ship. Mertz said about a dozen people were working on the game, including Forest Willard CEO of Innersloth. In addition to the demo and livestream, players can claim a free Among Us Story: On Guard-inspired hat cosmetic from June 15 through July 15. Two new Cosmicubes are also available now: the Cosmic Cosmicube, featuring space-themed cosmetics, and the Showbiz Cosmicube, with skins from the Among Us animated series. For a limited time, the Skeld map has been updated with animated series-themed easter eggs through June 30. Looking ahead, the fan-favorite Indie Cosmicube returns on July 13, featuring cosmetics inspired by Undertale, Untitled Goose Game, Celeste, A Hat in Time, Castle Crashers, Alien Hominid, and BattleBlock Theater.
