After years of suffering, Spyro fans suddenly have not just a brand-new game but an impending PC port of the OG PS1 classic with 60 FPS and "true widescreen" support
Decompilation projects continue to pay off with more and more native PC ports of classic games coming from fan developers. The Spyro fandom was already flying high with the announcement of a brand-new series entry earlier this month, and now the good times are continuing to roll with a PC port that promises to bring all sorts of modern bells and whistles to the OG PS1 classic. I'll get the bad news out of the way first: this fanmade PC port is not yet available to the public. But according to lumilaura, a prodigious Spyro speedrunner who's been asked to put an early version of the port through its paces, a full release is coming "much sooner than we all think." As if to demonstrate how close that launch is, she's provided a minute of gameplay footage which you can see below, and it's looking sharp. Plus, the dev suggests that while the project only covers Spyro 1 for now, the two PS1 sequels could theoretically "be easily supported." Of course, if you just want a modern-looking take on the original Spyro you could just dive into the Reignited Trilogy, but that's a fundamentally different experience to the actual OG.
