Sunshine, Speed and Switching: Explore Florida Tri-Rail in Train Sim World 7

For the first time in Train Sim World, we're heading to the South East of the United States as we take a closer look at Florida Tri-Rail: Miami Airport - Boca Raton, one of three new core routes arriving with Train Sim World 7 on September 15th.

With more than 45 miles of South Florida railway to explore, Florida Tri-Rail combines colourful commuter operations with CSX freight, 13 detailed stations, local yards and delivery points spread throughout the route.

Take a closer look at what's waiting for you in our Florida Tri-Rail Showcase Trailer.

Florida Tri-Rail made its debut as part of Dovetail Direct: Summer 2026. If you missed the reveal, or simply want another look at South Florida in action, you can rewatch the Florida Tri-Rail section of the show below.

Rewatch the Florida Tri-Rail deep dive from Dovetail Direct

From Miami Airport to Boca Raton

Your journey begins at Miami Airport, heading north through South Florida towards Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.

Across the route you'll call at 13 detailed stations, each recreated with authentic Tri-Rail furnishings. Onboard passenger announcements are delivered in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole, helping capture another distinctive part of travelling by rail in South Florida.

But this isn't solely a passenger railway.

Alongside the main line are freight yards, sidings and local delivery points that form an important part of the experience, giving you the opportunity to switch between regular Tri-Rail duties and local CSX freight operations.

That mix of traffic means one session could see you moving commuters through Miami, while the next has you assembling freight cars and making deliveries among the industrial areas of the route.

The Florida Feeling

Florida Tri-Rail brings a setting unlike anything we've explored before in Train Sim World.

Palm trees, bright skies and the unmistakable atmosphere of South Florida give the route its own visual identity, with the railway running through a region shaped by sunshine, beaches and the coastal character of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

The southern end of the route also puts you right alongside the activity of Miami Airport. Look to the skies and you'll see aircraft coming and going, adding another layer of life to your journeys as trains move in and out of the airport station.

Combined with the route's stations, suburbs, waterways and tropical vegetation, it's a very different backdrop for Train Sim World and a new corner of the United States for players to explore.

Meet the Tri-Rail Fleet

At the heart of Florida Tri-Rail is the BL36PH, representing the modern face of commuter operations across South Florida.

Included in both Tri-Rail's colourful "Palm Tree" livery and later Dark Blue livery, the BL36PH will keep you busy hauling passenger services between Miami Airport and Boca Raton.

The locomotive is paired with the included Rotem double-deck passenger cars and cab car, themselves represented in both Palm Tree and Dark Blue liveries.

Take control from the locomotive in one direction before changing ends and driving from the Rotem Cab Car for the return journey.

Alongside the newer BL36PH is the F40PH-3C, represented in Tri-Rail’s Dark Blue livery.

A familiar face of North American commuter rail, the F40PH-3C brings a more traditional locomotive experience to the route and adds another distinct way to tackle Tri-Rail passenger services.

Get to Work with CSX

Away from the commuter platforms, Florida Tri-Rail also gives freight fans plenty to get stuck into.

The CSX SD40-2 and GP38-2, both included in Yn3b livery, put classic American freight power at your disposal.

Make use of the yards and industrial delivery points spread across the route, switching cars and assembling trains before heading onto the main line alongside regular Tri-Rail passenger traffic.

Also making its Train Sim World debut is the Dura-Max Rock Hopper, introducing a new freight car to work with across the route.

These freight operations are also a natural fit for Train Sim World 7's new Freight Hauler mode, giving you even more freedom to make use of Florida's yards, industries and included CSX locomotives.

We'll be taking a much closer look at Freight Hauler during our upcoming livestream.

Exploring Florida

There's plenty waiting for you once you head out onto the route.

A selection of Scenarios will introduce you to different parts of Florida Tri-Rail, putting the included passenger and freight locomotives through a variety of operations and situations across South Florida.

Beyond these curated experiences, Timetable Mode recreates the everyday rhythm of the railway with a realistic schedule of commuter and freight services to discover. The route features 200 timetables in total with 111 playabble across Tri-Rail and Freight services.

Whether you're settling in for a passenger run along the full route, taking on a shorter service or heading into the yards with CSX, there will be plenty of opportunities to get familiar with the railway and find your favourite way to play.

And for players with an existing Train Sim World collection, the timetable can offer even more.

Expand Your Florida Experience

Compatible Add-ons can bring additional locomotives, rolling stock and services onto Florida Tri-Rail.

Owners of the Tri-Rail GP49H-3 can add another member of the commuter fleet to the timetable, bringing its distinctive take on Tri-Rail passenger operations to the route.

Players who own Northeast Corridor: New York - Trenton can also discover an additional Inspection Train service featuring the Amtrak® ex-Metroliner Cab Car.

Freight players can expand operations further with compatible freight cars from Horseshoe Curve and Clinchfield Railroad, adding even more variety to the trains moving around South Florida.

Each layer requires the corresponding Add-on, available separately.

Deluxe Edition: Tri-Rail GP49H-3

Want even more variety on the Miami rails?

The Train Sim World 7 Deluxe Edition adds the Tri-Rail GP49H-3, bringing an older-school flavour to the commuter fleet alongside the modern BL36PH.

Put the distinctive "Geep" to work deputising for Tri-Rail's regular passenger fleet, adding another locomotive and driving experience to the timetable.

The GP49H-3 isn't restricted to passenger duties either. Take charge of additional operations including ballast trains and put this versatile locomotive to work around South Florida.

For players wanting the most varied version of the Florida experience, the GP49H-3 adds another distinct cab, locomotive and selection of services to discover.

The Tri-Rail GP49H-3 Loco Add-On is included with Train Sim World 7 Deluxe and Ultimate Editions.

Capturing the Sound of Tri-Rail

Bringing South Florida to Train Sim World wasn't just about recreating what the railway looks like.

Our audio team travelled to Miami and worked directly with Tri-Rail to capture authentic sounds from their fleet, including access to the increasingly rare GP49H-3 locomotives.

Working alongside Tri-Rail's engineers gave the team the opportunity to get up close with the real equipment and record the details that give these locomotives their character, from the sound of the engines under load to the smaller noises heard around the cab and locomotive.

That first-hand access helped give the team a much stronger reference when bringing the fleet to life in Train Sim World 7, and we're looking forward to hearing what you think when you get behind the controls.
