Steam Deck OLED Prices Increase by Almost $100 in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan
KOMODO, the official distributor of Steam Deck in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, has recently confirmed that the prices of the Steam Deck OLED handhelds will increase starting next month. While many speculate that the main reason for the price hike is the growing shortage of memory chips, Famitsu says it’s actually happening because of increasing logistics costs. Valve recently revealed that they are ending the production of the Steam Deck 256 GB LCD variant, while the OLED models could remain out of stock intermittently. This was already a matter of concern for prospective buyers in certain regions, and now, a new headache has arrived for Asian players.Steam Deck OLED’s Revised Prices Revealed According to Famitsu, here are the revised prices of Steam Deck OLED models in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan:RegionsOld Price (512GB)Revised Price (512GB)Old Price (1TB)Revised Price (1TB)Japan¥84,800¥99,800¥99,800¥114,800South Korea₩839,000₩898,000₩989,000₩1,048,000TaiwanNT$18,880NT$18,980NT$21,980NT$22,480 The prices have increased by ¥15,000 in Japan, ₩59000 in Korea, and NT$100 for the 256GB model and NT$500 for the 512GB model in Taiwan. Prices may remain unaffected in most regions | Credits: Valve At the time of writing, it’s not confirmed by distributors from other regions whether they will impose a price hike. Of course, the availability of select models remains a major issue in the first place. Since Valve has confirmed that the Steam Deck OLED models may remain out of stock indefinitely, buyers are having a hard time finding them in the market. Some unauthorized sellers may take undue advantage of the situation and sell the product at a higher price, since it’s not widely available for sale. It’s kind of a similar situation in the aforementioned Asian countries, as Famitsu says the price hike is because of some logistical issues. The retailers over there have been suffering from increasing logistics costs ever since the Steam Deck was released. However, nothing about the memory shortage was mentioned in the Famitsu report.
