Next God of War game will reportedly feature dual protagonists exploring Chinese and Japanese mythologies

The rumor mill is swirling loudly and quickly that a new God of War game is set to be announced very soon, on top of the already-confirmed God of War Trilogy remake of Kratos's Greek saga. More info about a supposed mainline sequel from director Cory Barlog has been trickling in of late, and the latest news points to a myriad of regional mythologies taking center stage as opposed to just one main one like previous games. Screenshot by Destructoid According to a report by MP1st, the next God of War game will feature Mayan, Chinese, and Japanese mythologies as part of an adventure starring playable characters Faye (Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother) and Tyr (the Norse god of war). Faye, played by Daredevil: Born Again actress Deborah Ann Woll in God of War: Ragnarok, will wield a talking sword and have a "gelatinous cube" as a companion, according to the reports. Needless to say, if true, it may be a big departure from the series' roots with Kratos. Kratos will make an appearance of some kind, though, with other rumors stating that he will be in the game and also wield Egyptian-themed weaponry, so this game could end up being a globe-trotting experience across many mythologies. Color me very intrigued. All of this is unconfirmed so far, but I have to say, the game sounds so weird that it could end up being incredible. And with Santa Monica Studio's track record, there's really no reason to believe that it wouldn't be, even if gamers won't be playing as Kratos. Between Faye's legend as a great Jötunn warrior and Tyr's prowess as basically the Norse version of Ares, we can assume they will be kicking all kinds of ass. And with other mythologies on the table, like Chinese legends such as Sun Wukong, or Japanese mythological figures like Amaterasu and Ryujin, we may have another epic on our hands. I just hope it's all true. Earlier this year, Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson reported that the rumored new game would be announced "very soon, and in April as well," so the clock is ticking on that unless plans may have changed behind the scenes.
