Max Payne 1 and 2 remake is still happening, but publisher Rockstar won't let Remedy say any more

Rockstar and original developer Remedy described their partnership while revealing the remake of the Y2K-noir shooters all those moons ago, with Rockstar founder Sam Houser saying in a press release at the time, "We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can't wait to play these new versions." But he doesn't seem to have much to say beyond that, as Remedy now suggests during a recent financial Q&A session that it can't talk about Max Payne until Rockstar does. The Remedy moderator addresses the virtual audience of investors, analysts, and media members present for the Q&A and acknowledges that they're all submitting "a lot of questions concerning Max Payne." Makes sense, it's been four years. Everyone wants to know what's going on with the remake as Remedy spits out other games – Alan Wake 2 and FBC: Firebreak both launched since the Max Payne remake's reveal, and Remedy announced the upcoming Control Resonant. But the Remedy moderator explains that the developer's GTA 6-style silence on Max Payne comes from the fact that, "On that game, Rockstar Games is handling the publishing side. So we cannot comment on those questions." Earlier in the financial presentation, CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon reminded everyone, "We are a multi-project studio – Max Payne 1 and 2 remake remains in full production with Rockstar Games."
