Is this Black Flag or Monster Hunter? New video shows off hunting in AC 4 remake against gaming’s tankiest boar

Assassin’s Creed was always known for its cinematic but rather simple combat, which prioritized looks over mechanics. And it was genuinely great and kept getting flashier with each game until Ubisoft, for whatever reason, decided Monster Hunter-style sword sponges were a better alternative. Ever since it introduced this new RPG combat system, players have been criticizing it left and right, and if there was one thing people (myself included) didn’t want to see in Black Flag Resynced, it’s exactly this kind of boring, hack-and-slash fighting. The first trailers and showcases for Black Flag Resynced seemed to avoid showing us any such thing, leading to widespread praise for preserving and polishing the original game’s combat. But, surprise, surprise: Ubisoft couldn’t help itself and decided that at least some part of the game just needed the RPG combat, and it placed it in hunting of all places.https://embeds.beehiiv.com/a8d62108-86ed-4039-bf49-44877ba62c15 Hunting is back In Black Flag Resynced.AC Shadows did not allow hunting, so I'm super down with this. https://t.co/WA8i7x61xa— Farzam (@Rrredberrry) May 21, 2026 As you can see in the video above, a player goes out hunting in the jungle and comes across a boar. In the original game, this would’ve required some fancy assassination or a clean bullet between the eyes, both of which would’ve ended the boar immediately. In Resynced, you’re to fight the boar as if it were some gigantic creature, parrying and dodging its attacks and, of course, spending a whole lot of time unrealistically whittling down its sponge of a health bar. AC4‘s hunting generally didn’t involve any fights with creatures but rather, well, hunting them down. They would run, spot you from great distances, and force you to be one step ahead by climbing trees, hiding in bushes, and so on. Resynced‘s take is genuinely horrible, and I at least hope Ubisoft will have the courtesy to let us switch this RPG combat off. The company has kept its ear on the ground since first revealing Resynced and seems to be taking criticism and feedback rather well, so I’m willing to believe it’ll take care of this thing that, frankly, shouldn’t have been in the game in the first place. 0 The post Is this Black Flag or Monster Hunter?
