Highguard team finally breaks silence after TGA disaster, readies up for official launch showcase

Highguard, developed by industry veterans most known for their work on Apex Legends and other influential shooters, is just around the corner. However, ever since its rather disastrous TGA reveal, its developers have been radio silent, but are now breaking the ice and gearing up for an official launch showcase. On Jan. 26 at 12pm CT, Highguard is set to premiere its final showcase ahead of release, hopefully clearing up what the game is actually about. The TGA trailer was cinematic and grandiose, but didn't tell us much beyond that Highguard will be a team-based game with heroes, abilities, and some sort of siege mechanic.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qR9Xbzt5t0 Information regarding this pre-launch promotion is scarce, and we'll keep our ear to the ground for any news or tidbits. The TGA announcement left a bad taste in many mouths—not because Highguard itself was bad or unappealing, but rather that it was so hyped up as the final game in the show, which everyone at the time was anticipating as Half-Life 3 or some other major IP. The fact that it turned out to be just another hero shooter (after Geoff Keighley highlighted it's a game by former devs of Titanfall, another beloved game that people want a sequel or spiritual successor to) didn't land well with audiences. However, Highguard could still weather the storm and end up doing well, which this pre-launch promotion might be seeking to achieve. A lot needs to be said about this game, and it needs to be judged and valued on its own and not in the context of its unfortunate TGA experience. I won't say that I'm excited for another hero shooter, but I want everyone to have a fair chance at showing what they've come up with, which I think Highguard was unjustly deprived of. We'll know everything on Jan. 26, I guess. The post Highguard team finally breaks silence after TGA disaster, readies up for official launch showcase appeared first on Destructoid.
