Developer Blog: Beyond Armageddon
Hello Responders! From all of us here on the No More Room in 2 development team, we want to thank everyone who dove headfirst into Armageddon and supported this 1.0 launch. It’s been a long journey from our Early Access release to get to this moment, and we couldn’t be more proud of the result. Since Early Access, over 1,000,000 players have played No More Room in Hell 2, with 500,000 of those players being from 1.0 launch onwards on PC and consoles! Our early community was pivotal in helping us guide improvements, features, and content development to a place where we can confidently say No More Room in Hell 2 is a zombie experience unlike any other. That said, the largest piece of feedback since launch has been “So, what’s next?”, a question that we’ll begin to answer today. As we mentioned back in our 2026 blog, we were already planning for a 1.1 update well before launch. However, we now can share that we have multiple updates planned for 2026, two of which are slated for Autumn. (We also already have our eyes on 2027!)These will be focused on delivering the extra content we didn’t quite have time to prepare for 1.0, as well as new features and improvements informed by player feedback. While it’s still a bit too early to show off some aspects of these updates, we wanted to share information that addresses some of the core focuses that our community have made priorities for the remainder of 2026.Existing Experience RefinementFor those who missed our Launch Week Known Issues & Hotfix Info post, we’ve been focused on investigating and delivering fixes for the various issues players have faced since launch. We have a second hotfix incoming next week, bringing a larger selection of improvements to help improve the experience between now and our September update. This includes controller access to scoreboard & individual player muting as well as additional fixes beyond those previously listed. Additionally, we’ve been working on improving the odds of character preservation through disconnects and are hoping to release improvements in waves as they are ready. We know losing a Responder to something outside your control is one of the worst feelings and will continue to protect from those cases best we can. With that in mind, as well as to show our gratitude to those who have supported us through this launch, we’ll be distributing 3 Merits to every player who has played No More Room in Hell 2. These rewards will be automatically added to players' accounts upon their next login anytime between now and August 24th, 2026 at 12:00 EDT!Our September update will focus its refinement efforts on controller support, with both deadzone improvements as well as updating and improving UI menu navigation. Our goals with post-launch quality of life adjustments are to provide a more consistent and enjoyable experience across platforms, input methods, and skill levels. Looking towards the further future, subtitles is one of our major goals for accessibility as well as quality of life improvement. We’ve already begun investigating this feature, so expect more news to come in the future! Thanks for all of the feedback on where we can improve our game to be more approachable and stable for all!Adding More Gameplay VarietyMoving beyond issues, one of the largest points of gameplay feedback we’ve heard is a desire for greater variety between each of our experiences as well as an expansion of tools players can utilize. In our September update, we’ll begin deepening our existing content by adding additional objective permutations to Lewiston and a brand new scenario for Pottsville, meaning a new objective flow that completely turns the map on its head. We’ll also be adding brand new attachments for weapons, from muzzle modifications to laser sights, that meaningfully adjust what your firearms can accomplish. For our October update, we’ll be looking to add more gameplay items that slowly offer more choices during player’s runs without overwhelming new Responders or invalidating past builds. We’ll continue to preview content as we did on the Road to 1.0, offering players deeper looks into upcoming content as we work on it so once we have details, so will you!We also have heard feedback from players who wish to see Solo Mode expanded to allow for more of the core gameplay experience beyond a match by match basis. We’re beginning our investigation into how best to do so while keeping the focus on the cooperative experience, with the goal of both having their intrinsic benefits. Finally, Survival has been an amazing addition to the No More Room in Hell 2 experience that offers a different way to contribute to the CRC’s efforts as well as different environments than our Objective maps. We’re not ready to go too deep into future map plans, but will have a lot of exciting things to show in the future…Stay tuned for more info! ????️???? As players have advanced through the game’s current progression towards Nightmare, we’ve begun to hear from both those early in their journey as well as near the end that they want something greater to achieve once they’ve maxed out their camp of Responders and beaten all our maps on their highest difficulties.
Starting later this Autumn, we’ll begin building out an endgame that provides those who want it a way to go above and beyond and earn unique rewards as well as additional loadout options. Responder Retirement will be a new system that lets players send their maxed out characters to rest in exchange for future Responders to benefit from major gameplay boons and earn exclusive cosmetic items.
To aid with Retirement, we’ll also be adding improved support for XP events! We’ll continue to offer these as we did the final weekend of Early Access, but in a future update there will be in-game indicators that better highlight when you’ve earned boosted levels or currency. We hope these weekends help those with less time achieve more as well as provide rallying moments for the community to survive together.

As we were planning this feature, we also realized that this would lead to more and more players wanting to be able to check on their past Responders and reminisce on their journeys together. We’ll be adding a Responder Memorial that allows players to look back and remember those who came before, whether they are growing old with civilians or perished in the field. This will be available to all players, even those who never retire a Responder.
We wanted to end off this dev update with a glimpse into the future of No More Room in Hell 2, something a bit farther away that we’re really excited for. Throughout Early Access we often thought about what could lie beyond Nightmare. An experience that was not only difficult but provided a more-endgame focused experience that truly asked players to bring their best Responders and invest everything for a chance at success. “Hell Mode” as a concept was something that didn’t make sense for Early Access, but with your support is now an experience we’re hoping to release before the end of the year. We don’t have a ton of details to share yet, but stay tuned!
Once again, from the whole NMRIH2 development team, a huge thank you to each and every one of you who has geared up and entered our vision of an apocalypse. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without our community that has worked with us to create this experience as well as sharing the stories they create in every mission. Those moments that players have, from the hard lessons learned by beginners to the most frivolous of deaths at the hands of an errant runner to the hard-fought victories that barely allow a full Nightmare extraction, are what fuel us as we push forward.
As always, stay safe out there!
The NMRIH2 Dev Team
