Console Launch Now Targeting Summer 2026, With Cross-Platform Matchmaking ????
Hey Wanderers! We wanted to provide news as soon as possible on the console launch plans for Escape the Backrooms, so let’s get straight to it. Late last year we gave an update on the console launch with an ‘early 2026’ window. After more scoping out of the work and requirements from our team, it’s clear that a little more time will be needed to lock in the best possible console experience. We’re now targeting the summer this year to launch the game on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. So, not quite ‘early 2026’, but not too far away, and a necessary move to ensure quality and smoothness from day one. Important work is also ongoing to make use of console-specific features and compatibility. Another key reason for this change is to fully implement an important feature: cross-platform matchmaking. We’re pleased to confirm that once Escape the Backrooms has launched on consoles, players across all platforms will be able to host or join lobbies and play together. We’ll share full details on how this’ll work before it drops. Once launched, the console versions will remain lined up with the PC release – that means the same content, functionality, and updates will come to all platforms. More details and updates will be shared on here, TikTok, and Discord. As soon as an exact date for the console launch is locked in, we’ll let you know and raise a can of almond water in celebration. As always, thank you for your support!
