The DON-100 stands for 100-ya Motostrelkovaya Diviziya Osobogo Naznacheniya, or the 100th Motorized Division for Special Use, a Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) formation seeing the light at the very tail-end of the Cold War.Yes, that's right, this particular battlegroup did not exist in real-life in WARNO’s time frame, having only been raised shortly after October 1989 to quell unrest and nationalist uprisings in the Caucasus. As part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, responsible for law enforcement in the USSR, the division formed part of the ministry’s Internal Troops. Let’s get back to the Warsaw Pact’s offering in our new Nemesis DLC. The DON-100 stands for 100-ya Motostrelkovaya Diviziya Osobogo Naznacheniya, or the 100th Motorized Division for Special Use, a Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) formation seeing the light at the very tail-end of the Cold War.

Yes, that's right, this particular battlegroup did not exist in real-life in WARNO’s time frame, having only been raised shortly after October 1989 to quell unrest and nationalist uprisings in the Caucasus.
As part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, responsible for law enforcement in the USSR, the division formed part of the ministry’s Internal Troops. Created from the disbanded 14th Tank Division, plus a host of local air assault units, it was nicknamed the “Wild Division”. As such, in real life, it was intensively used to combat hotspots in the Caucasus in the early 1990s, from Nagorno-Karabakh and the later Chechen Wars.

In our WARNO timeline, things turn out a bit differently. The formation of the DON-100 is fast-tracked, but still used to squash the insurgents around the Caucasus and the southern frontier of the USSR. It seems trouble in this region has exploded, undoubtedly fanned by NATO agent provocateurs and saboteurs as part of a global conflict.
The DON-100 infantry was organized roughly along the lines of regular Soviet motorized troops, although they appear to have carried fewer machine guns and more SVDs. The infantry had also partially swapped back to 7,62mm AKMs, allegedly due to the “inhumanity” of the AK-74's smaller 5,45mm bullet, with the bigger bullets carrying increased stopping power and being able to kill outright.
The division’s motorized infantry regiments predominantly used the BTR-80 APC, though historical evidence points to the use of some BMP-1 and even BMP-2s, although the IFVs were not equipped with any ATGMs. While operating well within the borders of the USSRs, the division mostly used commercial trucks, particularly the GAZ-53 and ZIL-131.

The DON-100 was composed of personnel and equipment from the disbanded 14th Tank Division and several air assault battalions transferred to the MVD, which were subsequently reorganized as a light infantry division. Other units attached include:
- SMChM (special motorized militia) units, meaning local police forces.
- OMON, Internal Troops' special forces.
- Local PVO (air defense) units.
- Nearby Akhtubinsk's State Flight Test Center.
How will the DON-100 look like in WARNO? Being a Soviet internal security division, many of the battlegroup’s units will feature the Security trait. This means a unit’s Optic levels are raised one level when they stand still.

New units are marked in both italic and bold. All the below, as always, is still a work in progress and subject to change.

- The MILITSIYA MVD are 5-man local police patrols. Armed with 4x AKM and 1x KS-23, they have the Security and Militia traits, deploying in the GAZ-53. The KS-23 is a giant 23mm (!) shotgun, which will prove devastating in close encounters.

ART
Average as MVD troops, being Soviet internal security, did not have access to heavy or modern artillery.
- The main source of indirect fire comes from old PM-38 82mm mortars (new to the Soviets, but not to the Warsaw Pact as a whole) and the heavier 2S12 120mm mortar.
- The division also features D-30 122mm howitzers.
- With a number of independent artillery and engineering units providing a selection of heavier 2A36 GIATSINT-B 152mm howitzers and UR-77 METEORIT mine-clearing vehicles.

TANK
A pretty good category. The DON-100 inherited the 14th Tank Division’s stock, meaning it is almost entirely equipped with older T-62 tanks. The troops praised this tank’s 115mm gun for its fire support capabilities.
- Meaning that the main battle tanks will be the old T-62K Obr.67, T-62 Obr. 72, and T-62 Obr. 75. We have “Marched to War” a few select T-62M (T2A2) with an active protection system, which was tested at the time and soon after deployed in the region. Although different from the Drozd, the T2A2 APS worked pretty much in the same way, destroying incoming ATGM at short range by detonating a series of self-defense explosives.

- In due course of their (real-life) Caucasus deployment, the DON-100 would get their hands on additional PT-76 MVD with the Security trait, which we have represented as well.
- The only dedicated anti-tank units are towed D-44 85mm guns.

REC
Pretty mediocre, with the battlegroup only having a few small, independent recon units, but no larger battalions (as other formations would have had). However, with half of the infantry deploying with the Security trait, it doesn’t mean the DON-100 will go into battle blind.
- Some of the dedicated ground recon units are:
- SNAYPERI MVD with 1x AKS-74, 1x SVD, and the Sniper trait.
- The RAZVEDKA MVD with 4x AKS-74. Both units can deploy in UAZ-3151 and BTR-80 MVD.
- RAZVEDKA SAPERI can also deploy in GAZ-66 and MT-LB.
- New URSN RAZV. with 5x AKS-74, 1x SVD, RPG-18, and Special Forces and GSR traits, which can deploy to battle in UAZ-3151 and Mi-8T.
- The only recon vehicle is the BRDM-2.
- SNAYPERI MVD with 1x AKS-74, 1x SVD, and the Sniper trait.
- Aerial recon units include:
- The Mi-8PPA jammer helicopter is also featured.
- The new MI-8MT BERKUT-2 was being tested at the time by the MVD. This particular recon variant is equipped with an underbelly 14,5 mm turret, capable of rotating 360° under the helicopter's airframe, fielding a 12x sight which allowed accurate fire support at very long range.
- The Mi-8PPA jammer helicopter is also featured.

AA
- An average category with IGLA MANPAD.
- Plus ZU-23-2 towed and URAL-4320 ZU-23-2 anti-air gun trucks.
- Backed by the S-125 NEVA towed SAM system.
HEL
A pretty good category.
- Several air assault formations were disbanded and reorganized to create the DON-100. This means the battlegroup can access ample rotary-wing support, including numerous Mi-8 gunships.
- Plus the Mi-24V and Mi-24P [AA], as well as the last, venerable first-generation Soviet Mi-24A in use in this region, as spotted during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.

AIR
Rather mediocre, as most planes were deployed in other regions.
- Air cover will be provided by the MiG-23MLD [AA1] and [AA2] versions.
- Close air support will be provided by SU-25 [RKT2], SU-25 [NPLM], and SU-25 [AT].
- Lastly, from the State Flight Test Center at Akhtubinsk, will come the being tested MIG-29S interceptor, with the R-77 “Amraamski”.

The DON-100 is a light infantry division focused on combat in difficult terrain, with good tank and helicopter support.
That’s all for this week’s DevBlog. We’ll return with another one next week!
