Blood on the Danube takes Easy Red 2 to Hungary during the final brutal months of the Eastern Front. Fight through vast armored engagements, frozen Hungarian countryside, fortified positions, and intense street-to-street combat inside Budapest.

This is our largest and most content-dense expansion yet, introducing three new campaigns, 35 missions across two new maps, the new Hungarian and Romanian factions, and dozens of new weapons, vehicles, aircraft, uniforms, and equipment.

Blood on the Danube features three campaigns covering some of the largest and most desperate operations fought in Hungary during 1944 and 1945.

Fight through the prolonged and devastating battle for the Hungarian capital. German and Hungarian troops, surrounded by the Red Army, must defend the city through increasingly desperate engagements.

Battle across both Buda and Pest in the largest urban environment ever created for Easy Red 2. Fight inside streets, railway stations, industrial districts, residential areas, parks, fortified buildings, and positions overlooking the Danube.

Take part in the successive Axis attempts to break through the Soviet encirclement and relieve Budapest.

Fight across the frozen Hungarian countryside in large combined-arms operations involving infantry, tanks, assault guns, artillery, and aircraft. Snow-covered fields, villages, forests, hills, and defensive lines create a very different battlefield from the dense streets of the capital.

Experience the last major German offensive of World War II, launched near Lake Balaton in March 1945.

Command late-war armored formations through mud, open countryside, fortified settlements, and heavily contested defensive positions as the Axis forces attempt one final advance against the Red Army.

Across its three campaigns, Blood on the Danube includes more than 30 handcrafted missions taking place on two extensive new maps.

The missions cover large armored offensives, infantry assaults, defensive operations, urban warfare, close-air-support, artillery support, air-to-air combat, and desperate last stands from multiple perspectives.

As with the rest of Easy Red 2, every mission is designed around large-scale combined-arms warfare. Infantry, armored vehicles, aircraft, artillery, and supporting units operate together across dynamic battlefields where destruction, squad command, logistics, and tactical positioning remain essential.

Blood on the Danube introduces Hungary and Romania as fully represented factions, complete with dedicated voice acting, uniforms, weapons, equipment, and vehicles.

These additions allow the campaigns to portray the forces fighting in Hungary with a greater level of visual and historical detail than was previously possible in Easy Red 2 or any videogame on the market prior.

The expansion includes well over 150 new uniform and helmet pieces for Hungarian, Romanian, German, and Soviet troops, including not only new late-war and winter equipment for each side, but also early war equipment for the Hungarians and Romanians for custom scenarios.

More than 30 new weapons and grenades have been added, covering the standard infantry and support equipment used by the forces represented in the expansion.

New weapons include:

• 35M and 43M Mannlicher rifles

• Mannlicher 95/30 and 95/31(35M) rifles

• Mannlicher Gewehr 98/40

• 39M and 43M Danuvia submachine guns

• FÉG 37M pistol

• Schwarzlose M.07/12 machine gun

• Orița M1941 submachine gun

• 31M and 43M Solothurn light machine guns

• Madsen 24/43M and ZB-30 light machine guns

• PPS-42 and PPS-43 submachine guns

• Mosin–Nagant M44 carbine

• AVT-40 automatic rifle

• ZB vz. 24 rifle and sniper variant

• ROKS flamethrower

• Panzerfaust 100

• 44M kézi rakétavető anti-tank rocket launcher

• Additional rifles, machine guns, grenades, bayonets, and support equipment

The expansion adds more than 50 vehicles and variants, greatly expanding the selection of Hungarian, Romanian, German, and Soviet equipment available during the late-war period.

Hungarian armored vehicles include the Toldi, Turán, Zrínyi, and 40M Nimród families, alongside new tanks, assault guns, transport vehicles, logistical vehicles, artillery pieces, and other equipment used by each side.

New and expanded aircraft variants represent the increasingly intense air war over Hungary, including late-war versions of aircraft such as the Messerschmitt Bf 109, Focke-Wulf Fw 190, Ilyushin IL-2, and Yakovlev Yak-9.

Many vehicles and aircraft introduced during the development of this expansion have also contributed to improvements and additions throughout Easy Red 2.

The environments, factions, weapons, uniforms, vehicles, and other assets introduced by Blood on the Danube have been designed to integrate with Easy Red 2’s existing systems.

DLC owners can use the new content inside the Mission Editor and Map Editor, allowing custom missions and scenarios to be created across the new maps and with the new factions and equipment.

We would like to give special thanks to the Royal Hungarian Infantry Association and the Szent László Hadosztály Honvéd Hagyományőrző Egyesület for sharing reference material and assisting our research as we worked to represent the Royal Hungarian Army as faithfully as possible.

The Royal Hungarian Infantry Association is a historical reenactment organization based in Budapest, Hungary, dedicated to the authentic portrayal of the infantry of the Royal Hungarian Army during the 1940s. Historical accuracy is the cornerstone of its work. Through meticulous research and careful attention to detail, its members faithfully recreate the uniforms, equipment, field procedures, and military training of the period. Its goal is not only to preserve military heritage, but also to present it in an educational and respectful manner. The association traces its origins to its first predecessor group, established in 2017, and has continued to refine its standards of authenticity and historical interpretation ever since.[carousel autoadvance="true"][/carousel]

The Szent László Hadosztály Honvéd Hagyományőrző Egyesület is a historical reenactment organization based in Szolnok, Hungary, dedicated to the authentic portrayal of the Szent László Division—also known as the Saint Ladislaus Division—of the Royal Hungarian Army during the latter stages of World War II. Active since the early 2000s, the association likewise places historical accuracy at the center of its work, carefully reconstructing the division’s uniforms, equipment, field procedures, and military training while preserving and respectfully presenting its history.

The knowledge and assistance provided by both associations offered invaluable references during the development of the Hungarian soldiers, uniforms, equipment, and many other historical details featured in the expansion.

A special thanks to Giuseppe Rava for creating the dedicated key artwork for Blood on the Danube.

Giuseppe Rava is an internationally recognized Italian military-history painter, known for his work on historical publications, miniature ranges, and model-kit artwork. His paintings combine detailed research into uniforms, weapons, and equipment with dynamic battlefield compositions.

The illustration is intended as a visual interpretation of the DLC rather than a literal reconstruction of a single historical moment. It balances close attention to Hungarian uniforms, equipment, and atmosphere with a broader representation of the factions, vehicles, and combat featured throughout the expansion.

Rava’s distinctive military illustration style also perfectly reflects one of Easy Red 2’s central inspirations: the character and immediacy of a tabletop wargame brought to life as a videogame.
